Weekend round up 15th/16th August
This weekend saw a full schedule of matches for the senior Carlton XIs against other clubs for the first time this season. ESCA have done a great job organising games for all those clubs keen to compete this season, but given the limited ground availability they have only been able to schedule T20 games. Fortunately, with the cooperation of opposition clubs, we were able to rearrange things to get 40 over matches for the 5 senior XIs.
First under way were the 3s & 5s with an 11am start at Newfield Arti & Inch 2 respectively. The 5s registered the first victory of the weekend when their young bowling attack ran through Edinburgh South 2s in 20 overs. Freddie Megaw claimed 4-10 as the home team were bundled out for 60. In reply, Paul Stones went early but Stuart Dawson (17*) and Mike Kennedy (41*) saw the 5s home in 14.4 overs. There was enough time left to play another match and the 5s prevailed again with Rory Ledingham hitting 50 and John Beattie claiming a 4-for.
The 3s had Edinburgh Accies 2s in all sorts of trouble at 43 for 7 but they recovered to 146 all out. The McKays were the pick of the bowlers with young Mark claiming 4-17 and skipper Brad with 3-14. In reply Mo Nauman (32); Euan Keatinge (25) & Charlie Kentish (49) batted really well to set up a 4 wicket win.
Back at Grange Loan the 1s entertained RH Corstorphine and after an early wobble set an imposing 236 for 7 with Ali Evans hitting 108 and 55 from skipper Tom Simpson. The RHC reply never really got going and the visitors were bowled out for 80 in the 31st over with wickets spread around the six bowlers used and a run out.
On Sunday the Women were away at Inverleith to take on Edinburgh South/Stewarts Melville in a T20 match. Zara Dancu (26*) carried her bat as the Women posted 77 from their 20 overs but the home side were able to chase it down in the fifteenth over for the loss of two wickets.
The 4s entertained Morton 2s at Inch Park and restricted them to 124 for 9 with 2 wickets for Rudy Adair; Ivan Dawson & Fraser Kentish and 1 apiece for Dougie Firth; Andrew Lang & Max D’Ulisse. The Morton bowling proved to be difficult to get away on the slow outfield with only skipper Paul Kentish (37) able to make a meaningful contribution. In the end the 4s finished 15 runs short at 109 for 9.
The 2s welcomed Marchmont to Grange Loan and on winning the toss opted to bat first. Despite the early loss of Chris McAllister, Murray Whitaker hit 110 and there was 50 for Angus Beattie & 33 for Ben D’Ulisse as the home side posted 231 for 6. Skipper Harry Simpson was the pick of the bowlers with 3-20 well supported by Ruari McIntyre (2-25) & Mikey Brown (2-24) as the visitors were dismissed for 134 in the 39th over.
