Weekend preview – 22nd/23rd August
The 1st XI have their last home league game of the season when they entertain Forfarshire in round 17 of the EPL. Captain Daniel Da Costa misses out through injury so Arun Pillai (sponsored by Umair Mohammed Cosmetic & Sports Dentistry) is at the helm. Tom Hathorn who has been in good form with the bat for the 2s is set to win his first 1st XI cap on Saturday. Angus Guy is away so Shreyas Tekale will make his 8th appearance for the Arrows in the EPL this season in an otherwise unchanged lineup.
The 2nd XI are away to Edinburgh Accies in their final league match of the season. A win for the Arrows will secure second place in the ESCA Championship and Ben D’Ulisse & Hector Murray come in for Hathorn & Tekale. Accies, however, are on a good run having won their last 5 games, 3 of those at Newfield.
The final league game on Saturday sees the 3rd XI host Drummond Trinity 2s on the second pitch at Fettes. Skipper Brad McKay will be looking for a 4th win in a row to ensure an 8th place finish in ESCA Division 2. Pavan Yaradi is back available again and young left arm pace man Elliot Peltenburg also comes back into the side with Chris Brennan and Finlay Thompson the players unlucky to miss out this week.
Also on Saturday the U14 Girls & U16 Girls are in action in the finals of their respective Scottish Cups at Strathallan School. The U14s kick off at 11am against Stoneywood-Dyce and the U16s take on MDAFs at 3pm.
On Sunday the Women’s 1st XI welcome East Kilbride to Grange Loan in their penultimate match in the WPL 40. The Arrows win in Huntly last Sunday secured the title but captain Samantha Evans will be looking for her charges to maintain their unbeaten record in the league. Annette Aitken-Drummond makes only her 4th appearance for the Arrows this season in an otherwise familiar looking side that includes 3 of the U16s competing for silverware the day before.
The boys U14s are also in Scottish Cup final action on Sunday against Clydesdale at Victory Park in Meigle. The side is led by Rueben van der Merwe and features 6 of the U13 side that did so well competing in the latter stages of the ECB National Cup.
Also on Sunday the 4th XI travel to Roseburn to take on MDAFs 3s in the final match in ESCA Division 5. A win will see the Arrows finish 4th in the table and skipper Al Murray welcomes back Basil Khan at the top of the order as well as Brennan & Thompson from the 3s. Dan Mowat also comes into the side to join a strong looking seam attack of Taha Khan, Jake Heller & Abhi Mehta.
The final game of the weekend sees the 5th XI travel to Falkirk to take on Westquarter & Redding 2s at Bailliefields. With the U14s on Cup Final duty Keith Murray’s side is shorn of its normal youthful core. Ishan Samanta drops down from the 4s and there are spots for Harley Durnin-Cox, Kartic Subr, Raghuram Parasur and Benitto Santosh. Dan & George Barry also come back into the side as the Arrows look to secure a 7th place finish in ESCA Division 7.
