The club is sad to report the passing of a Carlton stalwart, C.C. Smith on Tuesday 9th July.

Chris was a fine all rounder who played for the club from 1961 to 1973. He topped the batting averages five times, scoring 6,168 runs @ 31.96. He also topped the bowling averages three times, taking 463 wickets @ 11.41 and he took 93 catches.

His young family were regular attenders at matches when they were young with Roddy and Mike both going on to be fine players themselves. The family then moved to Aberdeen where Chris became a Consultant Physician at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

However, Chris never forgot Carlton where he became an Honorary Life Member and a long-standing Patron and Match Sponsor. Saturday’s match against Grange is sponsored in his memory.

Roddy put it nicely when he said ”Grange Loan was always his favourite few acres of real estate in Scotland. It held lots of happy memories for him.”
