Chris McBride joins the Arrows

The club are delighted to announce the signing of Scotland International Chris McBride.  Chris moves to the capital from Dumfries ahead of the 2024 season.  The 24 year old is a hard hitting opening batter who also bowls seam and has 18 One Day International caps for his country.

In those 18 appearances he has scored 386 runs at an average of 24.12.  His high score of 56 came against Ireland’s in Scotland’s historic run chase of 286 in last year’s ODI World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe.  In that match he also picked up the scalp of Ireland stalwart Andy McBrine to add to his other 2 ODI wickets.

He also claimed a player of the match medal against Nepal in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 at Windhoek.  In the first innings he took 1-10, dismissing Rohit Paudel, the Nepal captain, for 47.  He then hit 46* off 40 balls, including 7 boundaries, in Scotland’s successful reply.

Chris played age grade cricket for Cumbria before getting the opportunity to feature for Durham’s academy and Second XI.  In 2018 McBride and Whitehead batted out the last 7 overs against Essex’s Second XI to secure the County Second XI Championship for Durham.

Having left the Durham system he studied Economics at Oxford Brookes University before completing a Masters in Real Estate.  He captained the University side and played two first class matches against Hampshire and Middlesex, facing West Indian pacer Fidel Edwards and South African Kyle Abbott in those games.

Director of Cricket Stevie Gilmour commented on the signing of McBride, saying “Delighted to welcome Chris to the club.  He is a talented allrounder and will bring a lot to the club both on and off the field.  I know he is very much looking forward to gettign started.”
