U14s safely through

Carlton U14s vs Grange

In the second round of the U14 Scottish Cup, Carlton entertained Grange at Grange Loan looking to emulate the 1st XI performance from Sunday.  Skipper Gav lost the toss and Carlton were asked to bat first.  The innings got off to the worst possible start as Gav got a leading edge first ball which looped up to slip.  Murray & Thomas were not put off and set about the bowling with intent.  The home side racked up 185 in 17 overs as Shaun (32*); Euan (30*) & Matthew (30*) all retired.  Murray (24); Thomas (24) and Rory (20) all scored heavily.

After a quick turn around Murray opened the bowling only conceded a single in his first over.  Rudy came down the hill and stick immediately thanks to Mathew’s solid catch at mid-on.  The first ball of Murray’s next over also produced a wicket as he claimed a simple return catch.  Rudy bowled the Grange No 3 in his second over to leave the visitors well behind at 9 for 3 after 4.  Charlie replaced Murray and wreaked havoc in the middle order with a run out, a catch from Euan at cover and an LBW.  In his second over Charlie picked up two more wickets with a bowled and a good low catch, nonchalantly taken by Shaun at midwicket.  The visitor’s ninth wicket showed some resistance but a run out in the 10th over brought proceedings to a close with the score on 31 as the last Grange player was unable to bat.
