Weekend preview – 20th/21st April
It’s matchweek minus one for the Arrows as they finally get into some preseason action ahead of the start of the regular season next weekend, however all games will be played on artificial surfaces.
The first week of the Eastern Premier League has been rearranged to the 31st of August so therefore our First XI’s preseason fixture against Watsonians has been pushed back a week to allow a pitch to be prepared.
The Women’s First XI will welcome ‘Sonians to Grange Loan for a morning T20, starting at 9:30am. In last year’s WPL the team from Myreside Road finished joint last, 5 places below the Arrows. Last year’s meeting occurred at Craiglockhart where 3 wickets from Charis Scott helped bowl the hosts out for 94. Ciara Gibson 24* and Samantha Haggo 9* helped see the team to a 8 wicket win.
The Second XI will be taking on their counterparts from Myreside on Saturday at Grange Loan on the artificial surface in a 40 over affair. It will be the first time new captain Charles Stronach marshalls his troops for the 2024 season. The teams are due to meet at Myreside in round 1 of ESCA Division 1 with the 2s failing to remain in the Championship last year.
The Fourth XI will visit Myreside to take on Watsonians’ 3rd team this Saturday. Similarly the 4s after being relegated last year will also meet Watsonians’ 3s in the league this season as they’ll clash in week 2 and week 11.
The Fifth XI off the back of a successful season in Division 7 will face Wastonians’ 4s at Craiglockhart on Saturday. The two sides won’t play against each other in the ESCA leagues as Watsonians’ fourth team sit one division below our 5s in ESCA Division 8.
On Sunday the Third XI will welcome touring side Chesham CC to Grange Loan. Chesham come from just outside London and have a very similar makeup to Carlton, they have 5 senior men’s teams as well as a large junior section. The touring side are scheduled to play against Penicuik on Saturday.
