Weekend preview – 8th/9th August
The 1st XI welcome league leaders Grange to Grange Loan with both sides missing players due to international commitments. The only change for the home side from last week is Shiv Jhala coming back into the side and Ferg Foley dropping to the 2s. In the reverse fixture earlier this season Ben Stronach took 4 wickets and there were 3 for Arun Pillai (sponsored by Umair Mohammed Cosmetic & Sports Dentistry) as the Arrows restricted Grange to 234 for 8 from their 50 overs. Skipper Daniel Da Costa top scored in the chase hitting 78 but 30s from Angus Guy & Pillai were the only other meaningful scores as Carlton fell short by 35 runs.
The 2nd XI take on their counterparts at Grange at Portgower Place. With the addition of Foley from the 1s Captain Gav Murray can also call on the services of Shreyas Tekale and Max D’Ulisse who weren’t available last week. Stevie Gilmour, Barry Vosloo & Felix Lisher are the players dropping out this week.
The 4th XI are away to second placed Edinburgh South 3s in an ESCA Division 5 match being played at Inch Park 2. Taha Khan is back from holiday and will join Abhi Mehta, Jake Heller and Raghuram Parasur in a strong looking seam attack. U13 spinner Aaradhy Khadse will be looking to continue his good form with the ball and Scott Fraser is available again to bolster the batting line up.
The final match on Saturday sees the 5th XI host MDAFs 4s on the plastic at Peffermill. The side features 5 of the U13 side which just fell short in the North Regional Final of the ECB U13 Club T20 Cup in Neston on Wednesday, including captain Ollie McCallum. In amongst the youth there is the experience of Martin Robertson, skipper Keith Murray, Sid Narayanswamy & Vijay Raghavan.
On Sunday the Women’s 1st XI make the short journey to Craiglockhart to take on Watsonians in the WPL 40. Skipper Samantha Evans will be looking to keep the Arrows 100% record in the league going and welcomes back Maisie Maceira & Charis Scott back into the ranks. There are also 1st team debuts for Sarah Law & Mathilda Ellis after impressive performances in the 2s this season.
The final game of the weekend sees the 3rd XI take on Leith FAB at Grange Loan. Charlie Kentish & Pavan Yaradi will be looking to carry on their good form with the bat from last week and the Arrows also welcome back Euan Keatinge. Robbie Murray misses out due to family commitments and John Gill is also away but that allows Kyle Burgess to come back into the side after bowling well for the 4s last time out.
