Weekend preview – 11th/12th July
The 1st XI have their third home game in a row as they welcome Edinburgh South to Grange Loan. Chris McBride is away this week but the Arrows are able to welcome back Shovik Chakraborty into their ranks. Tom Pedley misses out through injury but Shiv Jhala is available again. In the reverse fixture earlier this year McBride and Daniel Da Costa both hit half centuries and Oli Stones chipped in with 47 as the Arrows were bowled out for 223. In reply South were bowled out for 179 with Rudy Adair taking 3 wickets.
The 2nd XI away at Goldenacre 2 taking on ESCA Championship leaders Drummond Trinity. Skipper Gav Murray can call on the services of Oli Stones and James Stronach and Ben D’Ulisse is also back in action after a couple of weeks away. Scotland U16 player Felix Lisher is also set to make his Second team debut. In the earlier game at Grange Loan DTs suffered their only defeat of the season so far as the Arrows defended a total of 270 built around a century from the skipper.
The 3rd XI are on the road to take on Linlithgow at Boghall looking to build on a solid win last time out. Pavan Yaradi is back in the side having recovered from injury and Shaun Smith is back down having opened for the 2s for the last 2 weeks. Cam Moore is available again but Robbie & Hector Murray are missing as they enjoy sunnier climes. The 2 sides have yet to meet this season as the match in May was called off by Peffermill due to overnight rain.
The final game on Saturday sees the 5th XI make the short journey to the Meadows to take on league leaders Dunfermline & Carnegie 3s. Keith Murray is back at the helm although regular opening partner Martin Robertson is away. Duncan Dalzel-Job makes his first appearance in a league game this term and Euan Sweet comes back in to the middle order. There is another run out for Sid Vishnu and Rohan Jena is back in the 5s after showing up well in the 4s last week.
On Sunday the Women’s 1st XI welcome Grampian Thistle to Grange Loan in round 9 of the WPL 40. Annette Aitken-Drummond makes a welcome return for the Arrows as does Saskia Aldridge. They will hope for better luck with the weather this week after a washout against Watsonians last weekend as they look to maintain their 100% record in the League this season.
The Women’s 2s are also on duty on Sunday in a WPL 30 fixture away their counterparts at Stew Mel. Both sides are suffering from poor availability due to school holidays but this is giving opportunities for several players to make their league debuts including Abigail Fraser, Eva Vaughan Shaw and Coco Nixon.
The final game of the weekend sees the 4th XI venture to the north of the city to take on Leith FAB 3s at Leith Links Arti. Skipper Al Murray has the services of Kyle Burgess who will look to build on his impressive outing with the ball for the 3s last week as well as regular seamers Taha Khan, Jake Heller and Stu Dawson. Tomos Hunt is available again as he takes a break from his studies down south and Basil Khan is back to take his spot at the top of the order.
