Weekend roundup – 19th/20th July

The 1s were in Broughty Ferry on Saturday to take on Forfarshire in round 12 of the EPL.  Batting first they managed 22 overs before the rain came and play was abandoned for the day.  In that time the Arrows had added 98 runs for the loss of Chris McBride (37) with Angus Guy well set on 39*.  That turned out to be the only play across the whole of the EPL on Saturday as all the other games were abandoned without a ball being bowled.

The 2s welcomed Gala to Grange Loan and after a delayed start the weather broke and some play was possible.  Carlton elected to bowl first and Dougie Firth and skipper Charles Stronach each claimed a wicket to leave Gala 31 for 2 after 10 overs.  The rain then returned putting an end to proceeding as this game too was abandoned without a result.

The 3s made their way to Alloa to take on Clackmannan County.  With the threat of rain later the captains agreed to shorten the game to a 20 over contest.  The Arrows batted first and found life difficult on a challenging pitch.  They posted a total of 113 for 4 from their overs with Aadi Khadse top scoring with 34 and Anish Amin, Pete Gill and Andrew Lang all chipping in with 15.  In reply there were early strikes for Lewis Broster and Raghuram Parasur but Clacks made their way to 44 for 2 after 9 overs before the weather closed in and no more play was possible.

The 4s match was cancelled on Friday as unfortunately Linlithgow 2s were unable to raise a side.

On Sunday the 1s had an early start at Goldenacre taking on Heriot’s in the Masterton Trophy semi-final.  Opting to bat first the Arrows produced a below par performance with the bat posting a total of 97 for 9 from their 20 overs.  Olly Davidson top scored with 30 but only 3 other batters made it to double figures.  Although they did produce a decent bowling performance a few uncharacteristic lapses in the field let Heriot’s off the hook.  In the end the home side got over the line with 8 wickets and 21 balls to spare.

The Women were also in T2o Cup action at Inverleith, taking on Stewarts Melville in the first round of the Beyond Boundaries Women’d Scottish T20 Cup.  Bowling first 2 quick wickets for Maisie Maceira put the Arrows in a great position and then Agnes Foley struck to make it 27 for 3 at the end of the 7th over.   Stew Mel consolidated and took the score to 77 before Amy Yang picked up 2 wickets in the 18th over.  The home side did well in the last 2 overs to take the score to 104 with Foley claiming a run out off the final ball of the innings.  Carlton also lost 2 wickets relatively cheaply and when Abbi Aitken-Drummond was out for 21 in 8th over they were in a spot of bother at 49 for 3.  Maceira and Sarah Beith steadied the ship and made good progress to the total before a mix up saw Maceira run out for 29.  Needing 5 off the last over to win 2 more runouts worked against the Arrows as they fell agonisingly short to lose by a single run.

The final game of the weekend saw the 5s host Clackmannan County 2s at Grange Loan.   The visitors won the toss and chose to bat first and made a solid start until Aaradhy Khadse claimed the 1st wicket in the 17th over with 59 on the board.   Rahul Khadse was next to strike to make it 89 for 2 but the men from Alloa were beginning to score freely.  Rohan Kumar Jena claimed 3 wickets in the 36th over to make it 156 for 5 and then Aaradhy Khadse picked up 2 more as the visitors finished on 185 for 7 from their 40 overs.  In reply the Arrows made a decent start but then wickets began to fall.  When skipper Keith Murray was out for 42 the home side looked in all sorts of trouble at 77 for 4 but Duncan Dalzel-Job (41) and Angus Turner (29) had other ideas.  Unfortunately both fell in the 37th over leaving just too much for the tail to do as they finished on 181 for 9, to fall just 4 runs short.
