Junior Registration 2021

Overview

We are using Pitchero this year to register all junior members.  Pitchero holds our membership database, and we will use it to manage communications with parents and players.

** This is different from last year’s registration with Pitchero.  If you or your child registered last year, please read “notes for returning families” below carefully.**

At least one parent of all junior players must register with Carlton, and all junior players must be registered by a parent – juniors cannot register themselves, because part of the registration process is to collect parental consents.

All club communications relating to junior players (for example availability and selection for matches, or notification of social events) will be sent to parents.  Parents can decide – at their discretion – to allow their children also to receive communications and to manage their own availability.

This page describes how to register yourself and your children, and explains how to handle various types of family membership.

If you have any problems at any point, please contact juniorregistration@carltoncc.co.uk.

There are two steps you must do please.

  • register a parent
  • register your child(ren).

Additional steps you might also want to do:

  • register a parent also as a player
  • add another child
  • add another parent
  • allow your child to manage their own account
  • sign your child up to also play in senior teams.

If you have any problems at any stage, please email [junior members?  me?]

Notes for returning families

Last year, we kept the master copy of player registration in a separate database.  We used Pitchero only for managing players’ availability and team selection, which meant we could allow juniors to manage their own registrations.

This year, we are using Pitchero to hold the combined database.  This will make our management of all club communications much more efficient and secure.  However, that does mean that we must ask parents to register their children, including those who were registered last year.  To make sure that happens, we deleted all registration of juniors who self-registered last year.  This is temporary – they certainly haven’t been removed from the club!  Once parents have registered their children, the children will be able to reinstate their registration, and manage their availability and team selection as last year.  Because of the way in which Pitchero handles its own data, in most cases the child won’t even have to re-enter any data.

There are full instructions in the sections below.

Register a parent and children

All parents must do this.  If you are already registered as a member of Carlton CC (from last season), skip to “If you are already registered” below.

Parents register themselves using their own name and contact details (not their children’s names).  Parents who also want to play should initially register as parents only; they will be able to add themselves as players later (described below).

If the parent also has another role in the club (for example coach or team admin), they do not register that at this point. We will complete that later.

In my opinion, this is simpler on a browser, although it can be done using the Pitchero mobile app too.  If you register using a browser, you can still use the mobile app for everything else.

Using a browser:

Step 1: initial registration

For each child in the family:

A Carlton admin will approve the request(s).  We’ll do this as soon as possible, but please be patient.  You should get a notification from Pitchero when that is done.

Step 2: complete the registration

  • Navigate to www.pitchero.com/clubs/carltoncc again, and sign in.
  • Click the avatar at top right, then “My Account”
  • For each child, click the child’s name in the second menu bar, then “Membership info”
  • Complete all fields and press “Save changes”.

Using the mobile app

Step 1: initial registration

  • Open the Pitchero app
    • If you already have a Pitchero account (for example because you are a member of another sports club), sign in
    • If you do not have an account, fill in all the fields Pitchero asks for, and press “Create Account”
  • Choose Cricket from the “Choose a sport” list
  • Type “Carlton CC” in “Join a club”
  • Apply to be a parent (do not apply for other roles at the moment, you can add them later)
  • Add each child in turn.

A Carlton admin will approve the request(s).  We’ll do this as soon as possible, but please be patient.  You should get a notification from Pitchero when that is done.

Step 2: complete the registration

  • Open the Pitchero app again, and sign in.
  • Click the 3-bar menu icon at bottom right, then “My Account”
  • For each child, click “[Child]’s info”, carefully check all fields and press “Save changes”

If you are already registered

This section applies if you were registered, as yourself, last year.  It does not apply if any of:

  • you registered a child using your email address
  • your child registered themself and you did not register.

In either of those cases, please complete a parent registration as described in the previous section.

If you were registered with Carlton CC last year, you need to do the following.

Step 1: Ensure that all your children are listed.

  • Login to your Pitchero account and select Carlton CC
  • Check that your name is on the account, and not that of a child.  If it’s a child’s name, please change it to your name (don’t worry, the child’s membership will be unaffected).
  • Navigate to your roles
    • On Windows: click the avatar at top right, then “My Account”, then “Manage Roles”
    • On iPad & iPhone: click the 3-bar menu icon at bottom right, then “My Account”, then “My Roles”
    • On Android: [tbd, but hopefully same as iPhone]
  • Under the heading “Parent of”, check that all your children who are members of Carlton CC are listed.
  • If any children are not listed:
    • Click on “Manage” (next to “Parent”)
    • For each additional child, type the child’s name and select the child from the list (if they are not present, please do not try to add them, but contact juniorregistration@carltoncc.co.uk).

The request is sent to the Carlton Pitchero account, where we will accept it.  We’ll do this as quickly as possible, which should be within 24 hours.

Step 2: Check the membership information for all your children.

  • On Windows;
    • Click the avatar at top right, then “My Account”
    • All children are listed in the blue bar just down from the top of the page (the names are hard to read – pale grey on pale blue, I haven’t worked out how to change that yet.)
    • Click on each child in turn, then “Membership Info”
    • Carefully check all fields, then press “Save changes”
  • On iPad & iPhone:
    • Click the 3-bar menu icon at bottom right, then “My Account”
    • Each child has an entry “[Child’s name]’s info”
    • Press “[Child’s name]’s info” for each child in turn, carefully check all fields and press “Save changes”.
  • On Android: [tbd, but hopefully same as iPhone]

At this point …

At this point:

  • The parent is registered as a parent
  • Their children are registered as players
  • The children are all registered with their correct teams (we have pre-populated that information)
  • All communication relating to all children will be with the parent.

That is all you need to do now, you and your child(ren) are registered to play at Carlton CC.  You can stop following these instructions.

However, there are several additional things that it is likely that families will want to do.  You can do these at any point – now or later in the season.  They are described in “Additional registration” immediately below.

Additional registration

Topics covered:

  • Register another parent
  • Register another child
  • Register one or both parents as a player
  • Register a junior player – which allows the junior player to manage their own communications, in particular match availability and selection
  • Sign a junior up for senior team(s)

Register another parent

If a second parent wants to register, they do almost exactly the same as the first parent.

Using a browser:

For each child in the family:

  • Click Add a Child
  • Enter the child’s name
  • Pitchero should find the child registered by the first parent – select that child

Using the mobile app:

  • Open the Pitchero app
    • If you already have a Pitchero account (for example because you are a member of another sports club), sign in
    • If you do not have an account, fill in all the fields Pitchero asks for, and press “Create Account”
  • Choose Cricket from the “Choose a sport” list
  • Type “Carlton CC” in “Join a club”
  • Apply to be a parent
  • Add each child in turn.

Both parents will receive all communications relating to their child.

Register another child

If you have one child registered, then want to register another child later:

Using a browser:

Step 1: initial registration

  • Navigate to www.pitchero.com/clubs/carltoncc and login
  • Click on the avatar in the top right of the page, then click on “Your Account”
  • Click on “Your Roles”, then click on “Manage” next to “Parent of”
  • Click on “Add a child”
  • Type the child’s name – they should already be in Pitchero
  • Enter the basic registration details

A Carlton admin will approve the request(s).  We’ll do this as soon as possible, but please be patient.  You should get a notification from Pitchero when that is done.

Step 2: complete the registration

  • Navigate to www.pitchero.com/clubs/carltoncc again, and sign in.
  • Click the avatar at top right, then “My Account”
  • For each child, click the child’s name in the second menu bar, then “Membership info”
  • Complete all fields and press “Save changes”.

Or using the mobile app

Step 1: initial registration

  • Open the Pitchero app and choose Carlton CC
  • Tap on the 3-bar menu icon at bottom right, then “My Account”
  • Tap on “My Roles, then “Manage” next to “Parent for”
  • Click on “Add a child”
  • Type the child’s name – they should already be in Pitchero
  • Enter the basic registration details

A Carlton admin will approve the request(s).  We’ll do this as soon as possible, but please be patient.  You should get a notification from Pitchero when that is done.

Step 2: complete the registration

  • Open the Pitchero app again, and sign in.
  • Click the 3-bar menu icon at bottom right, then “My Account”
  • For each child, click “[Child]’s info”, carefully check all fields and press “Save changes”

Register as a player

Once a parent has registered themselves and all their children, they may also want to register themselves as a player.

On Windows:

  • Login to Pitchero
  • Click on the avatar in the top right of the page
  • Select “Manage Roles”
  • Select “Apply to be a player”, then select the team(s) they want to play for.

On iPad/iPhone:

  • Start the Pitchero app and sign in
  • Press the 3-bar menu icon at bottom right, then “My Account”
  • Press “My Roles”
  • Press “Player”, then select the team(s) you want to play for.

Register a junior player

Parents of older juniors will want them to manage their own availability and selection.  This decision is at the parent’s discretion; Pitchero’s guideline is that children should be 14 in order to have this access, but Carlton will not impose any age limit. I haven’t yet found a way that parents can do that!  They will need to email juniorregistration@carltoncc.co.uk, giving the junior’s name and email address, and asking us to register the junior.

(Alternatively, maybe we could tell them to send a message through Pitchero).

We will send the junior an email with a link to follow.  They should follow that link to confirm their email address.

Thereafter, the parent and the child will receive all communications relating to the child.

Sign a junior up for senior team(s)

Many junior players also play for senior teams, as an important step in their cricket development.  Coaches will recommend which teams juniors play for – please do this step only if you have been asked to by someone at the club.

Using a browser:

  • Login to Pitchero
  • Click on the avatar in the top right of the page
  • Click on the junior’s name in the 2nd menu bar, it’s a faint grey on pale blue, which can be hard to see
  • Click on Manage Roles
  • Click “Manage” next to “Player for”, then select the teams they play for.
Using the mobile app:
  • Start the Pitchero app and sign in
  • Tap the 3-bar menu icon at bottom right, then “My Account”
  • Tap “My Roles”
  • Tap the junior’s name in the top menu bar
  • Tap “Manage” next to “Player for”, then select the teams they play for.

This will send a request to Carlton, which we will approve.
