Women

Welcome

Carlton takes great pride in how our women’s section has gone from strength to strength over the years, since it first started in 2012. We have a hugely diverse range of abilities in our squad, from women who have never played cricket before to Scotland internationalists. We encourage everyone to come and give cricket a go at our club – there’s something for everyone and we’d love to have you along at one of our training sessions.

Interested? If so, we’d love to hear from you! Email us at carltonwomen@gmail.com and we’ll get back in touch with you as soon as we can about how you can get involved with our friendly squad!

Training

Women’s training sessions take place from 6-8pm every Friday, at 180 Grange Loan, Edinburgh, EH9 2EE. Many players enjoy a pie & a pint in the beer garden afterwards, starting the weekend off in style!

Fixtures

You can find details of all the Women’s First XI fixtures for the season here. The Second XI fixtures will be listed on Pitchero in due course.

Coaches

Our Coach for this season is Dewald Nel. With 11 years professional sports experience, Dewald has extensive cricket experience at International, First Class/Domestic and Club Level worldwide. He’s a fantastic coach and we’re very lucky to have him on board!

Playing Opportunities

Premier League – 30 overs
11 aside
National
(May-Aug)
The 11 aside national league brings together the competitive hardball women and girls teams in Scotland. This will run from Sunday 14th May and improve players who play nationally, regionally and at a hardball club level.

All eight teams in the Women’s Premier League will initially play each other once, either at home or away. After the seven rounds of matches, the league will be split into two with the top four teams (as defined below) playing each other ‘again’. Likewise for the bottom four teams.

The Wee Bash Outdoors
6 aside
Regional/local
(Dates TBC)
The Wee Bash has run for the past four years and is the most successful for providing playing opportunities at a softball level in Scotland for Women and Girls. With a huge emphasis on participation and fun, the Wee Bash encourages participation at a softball level to grow an individual’s confidence to move on to playing hardball in the future.

Challenger League
8 aside
Regional/local
(May-Aug)
The Challenger League provides a steppingstone to hardball cricket. It will provide an opportunity for those women and girls who do not play at a regional level – to shine in an 8 aside hardball/ series or games, with a real emphasis on developing players.

Beyond Boundaries Scottish Cup T20
11 aside
National
(Dates TBC)
The 11 Aside knockout competition provides an opportunity to round off the Summer of hardball cricket.
