Weekend preview – 16th/17th August

On Saturday the 1st XI travel north to take on Arbroath at Lochlands, with the Arrows looking to consolidate second spot in the league. Missing this week are Angus Guy, Ally Evans, James Stronach & Conor Regan and their spots are taken by Jamie Beattie, Harry Simpson, Ben Stronach and Arun Pillai. The home side will be delighted with Regan’s absence after he took 7 for 17 against them in the Cup earlier in the season.
The 2nd XI are home to high flying Watsonians in the ESCA Championship. With Simpson and Beattie elevated to the 1s, Dougie Firth earns a recall and Isaac Foley is available again to join younger brother Fergus in the 2s lineup. James Stronach drops down for the 1s to keep in Ben D’Ulisse’s absence and Shreyas Tekale comes in for Pavan Yaradi along with Pete Gill making a welcome return after 50 for the 3s last week.
The 3rd XI will make the short journey to Campbell Park to take on Edinburgh CC 2s. The 3s are currently in 7th place in ESCA Division 2, sitting 2 places above the home side. Cameron Moore is available again along with Lewis Broster and Anish Amin earns a recall on the back of his half century for the 4s last week.
The 4th XI are expecting their largest crowd of the year as they take on Morton 3 at Meadows 1. Skipper Al Murray is back at the helm along with young bowlers Dan Mowat and Finlay Thompson. Kartic Subr back from his travels to play along side son Atreya who along with Ian Thompson makes up the second father & son combination for the 4s this week.
The 5th XI are at “home” at Neilson Park in Haddington for the visit of Drummond Trinity 5s. Second top wicket taker for the 5s Elliot Peltenburg is available once more as is Vijay Raghavan playing his first game back after a broken ankle earlier in the year. Young Sam Gilmour will be looking to continue his recent form with the bat and skipper Keith Murray will also be able to call on the experienced Rahul Khadse to bring up the average age of the bowling attack.
On Sunday Grange Loan is given over to the annual Junior Sixes competition. There are 6 teams and each one is made up of players drawn from Girls U16, U12, U14 & U16 hardball teams. Each team will play 4 games over the course of the day and Martin Firth will be manning the abacus to determine the winner at the end of what promises to be a fun-packed day of cricket.
