Weekend preview – 28th/29th June

It’s the final Sunday of WPL fixtures this weekend as well as the start of the second half of the ESCA season.
On Saturday the 1st XI welcome Heriot’s to Grange Loan, with both sides coming off the back of Scottish Cup quarter final wins. The two sides will meet next Sunday 6th July in the cup semi-final but for now the Arrows field a changed side. James and Ben Stronach, Charlie Buchanan-Smith and Rudy Adair replace Chris McBride, Gavin Murray, Rory Allardice and Jamie Beattie from Sunday’s side that beat Arbroath. The match is kindly sponsored by Paul Bailey.
The 2nd XI are in action against Heriot’s 2s at Goldenacre as they look to overturn the result from round 1. Pavan Yaradi, Isaac Foley, Shaun Smith, Aadi Khadse and Max D’Ulisse all return to the side.
The 3rd XI are on duty at Peffermill against Edinburgh University Staff. There are plenty of changes throughout the side with skipper Brad McKay back at the helm. Both sides are currently occupying the relegation places but a win for either side would most likely lift them out of the bottom two.
The 5th XI will finish off Saturday against Edinburgh CC 3s at Meadows 2. Rahul Khadse will captain a youthful side in Keith Murray’s absence. The first meeting between these two sides earlier in the season resulted in a last over thriller with the game finishing as a tie.
On Sunday the Women’s First XI are on the road again as they head to Scroggie Park to face off against RHC Lynx. Amelia Beattie and Flora Corbin come into the side for the final WPL game of 2025.
The 4th XI will host MDAFs 3s at Grange Loan for a 1pm start on Sunday. The side from Murrayfield are currently 2nd in ESCA Division 5, despite falling to defeat against the Arrows at Roseburn in round 1. Hamish Foley and Robbie Murray bolster the resources for the 4s with both bat and ball.
Both the First XI’s and Fourth XI’s fixtures at Grange Loan will be livestreamed on the Carlton CC YouTube Channel.
