Outdoors again!

The outdoor season starts on Saturday 6th April.

Firstly, it’s the first outdoor nets of the year - 12pm - 2pm. All welcome.

Secondly, it’s Cricket Force day at Grange Loan. After nets, there are plenty of jobs needing done - fixes to nets, general ground tidy, scorebox clean, sibcas tidy, changing rooms painting etc.

We need everyone to pitch in to get us ready for the new season. If everybody can share an hour or two, it makes an enormous difference. We’ll even get some pizzas in after the work’s done! See you there ...

Youngsters win indoor title

The Carlton Under 12s won the Lothian indoor 6s competition at Craigroyston on Sunday 31st March.

The Carlton youngsters beat Watsonians in the semi final, restricting them to 41, helped by a 4 wicket maiden from James Stronach, before scoring 78.

They then played Livingston in the final and beat them too, hitting 90 and conceding only 50 in response.

A great performance by all who played today and in the two rounds of heats. The Carlton squad was undefeated in all matches over the three dates and finished very deserving winners of the competition.

Well done to Sunday's squad of Ben, Charlie, Finlay, Hamish, Harry, James, John & Max.

More indoor success for the Under 12s

The Carlton Under 12s were in action again in Sunday 3rd March in the indoor 6 a side competition at Craigroyston. The strong team of Ben, James, Fergus, Hamish, Oli, Robbie, Blair, Charlie and Jack won all three of their matches in emphatic style to finish the heats with a 100% record.

After two good wins against East Lothian and Gala, their in the last pool match saw them meet Livingston, who had also won both their first two games. An excellent bowling and fielding performance left Livingston in negative territory and the Carlton youngsters then smashed a mighty 142 off their 6 overs.

There were great performances from all, but James’ and Robbie’s 55 off their 2 overs against Livingston was probably the highlight.

Carlton head to the finals on 31st March in excellent shape.

Under 12s in indoor action

Our U12s were in action on Sunday 25th January in an indoor 6 a side tournament at Craigroyston High School.

Carlton took a squad of 8 to the event: Fergus & Hamish Foley, Max D’Ulisse, Robbie Murray, Oli Stones, Lewis King, Jack Harrison and John Gill. Hamish and John were on U12 debut and both performed well, with 9 year old Hamish hitting the most sixes of any player on the day.

The youngsters won all three of their first round matches including a memorable match against a competitive Livingston team, where Fergus and Max’s 25 off the penultimate over proved decisive.

We have another set of matches on 3rd March with the finals scheduled for 31st March.

Pete Steindl takes over as senior coach

We’re delighted to announce that Carlton’s new head coach for senior cricket will be Pete Steindl. Pete will take over the reins for the upcoming season and has already been busy running our indoor sessions.

Pete brings an exceptional cricketing CV to the role. Born in Queensland, Pete moved to Scotland to pursue his cricketing career, eventually qualifying to play for his adopted country. His coaching career has seen him qualify as a Level 4 coach and includes a six year stint as Scotland’s head coach.

Pete is no stranger to the club, as he carried out the same senior coaching role in 2014. He has also been coaching the Carlton women’s side over the last few years and his daughters Lily and Amy have represented the club on many occasions.

Pete told us: “I’m delighted to have the opportunity to coach Carlton Cricket Club once again. As a coach it’s always exciting to work with an ambitious and forward thinking club which has a clear vision of developing a successful programme to develop players from its youth section to senior teams.”

Everyone at Carlton is looking forward to working with Pete once more, and we know he’ll have a really positive influence on players at all levels of the senior club.
