Musselburgh XI

  178 for 7 (39.5 overs) home 177 all out (40 overs)

On a beautiful day and on an excellent wicket, Russell Weir skippered an inexperienced side against a fairly strong Musselburgh XI.  The match provided a thrilling finish with the hosts winning by three wickets from the second last ball of the match.

Russell negotiated with the Musselburgh Captain and decided that the visitors would bat first and they accumulated a healthy total of 177 all out from their 40 overs. Excellent bowling performances from Seb Rae with 4 for 17 and Adam Weir with 2 for 25 and a typically steady performance from Bob Irvine of 1 for 24 from his eight overs kept the target total to a manageable figure.

Carlton set off on the run chase in explosive fashion with Alex Fedenczuk smashing the bowling to all corners of the ground, making 32 and Seb hitting a delightful 41, providing a good platform with an opening partnership of 93.

Seeing that the game was running away from them, Musselburgh then turned to their first team bowlers and quickly took five wickets and Carlton suddenly looked in trouble at a 116 for 5 until young Keshav Arvind arrived to provide some much needed solidity, while Alex Mayes provided some even more needed spectacular hitting and put Carlton back on course, taking the score to 168 for 7.

Carlton lost one more wicket but Keshav remained and was joined by Adam Weir who hit the winning runs with one ball to spare to provide a thrilling climax to a match which was played in good spirit and camaraderie.
