| An impressive start to the season for the U15s as they inflict a heavy defeat on a young Heriots side. Andrew Keane gets the match off to a great start with 2 wickets in the first over. In all, 8 bowlers are given an early season run out on a bitterly cold Sunday morning as the hosts are dismissed cheaply. In reply, Nick Martin (25*) and Grigor Brown(16*) knock off the runs in just 6.4 overs. |

| Nick Martin 37, Fraser Boyd 26 and Tom Barrett 23* are in the runs as Carlton post a reasonable total at the Royal High School. At 8 for 3, courtesy of a hat-trick from Alex Fedenczuk, there only looks to be one winner. However, a dropped catch gives a life to Patrick Saddler and the Scotland player takes full advantage by posting an unbeaten 78 to steer the hosts to a 5 wicket win. |

A bad night for Carlton as their batsmen, clearly spoiled by Alasdair’s batting paradise at Grange Loan, struggle to get to grips with a soft pitch at Gala. Only Tom Barrett with a hard fought 40 and Fergus Walker with a belligerent 14 cause the home bowlers any problem.
In reply the Gala batsmen seem up for the fight until they are pegged back by an early wicket from Henry Lawrence. When Nick Martin is hit into the trees for six the writing seems to be on the wall. However, the leg spinner floats up a beauty next ball to have the hard hitting Fairburn stumped. Next man in is Scotland player Kris Mein and history repeats itself as a catch goes down with the game up for grabs. Once again, the opposition batsman takes full advantage to see his side home for a well deserved victory. One remaining bright note for Carlton was leggie Fergus picking up a wicket with his first ball for Carlton! |

| Following Watsonians' cancellation of the scheduled league fixture, Heriot's kindly step in to provide the opposition.
A young Carlton bowling attack fails to curb the attacking strokes of Johnny White and the hard hitting batsman races to 75 before he's picked up by leg spinner Philip Moynihan. Chasing 134 to win, the total looks out of reach when skipper Nick Martin is run out in the first over. However, Grigor Brown (34) and Scott Duncan (48) put together a fine partnership of 70 to get Carlton back in the hunt. Aggressive stroke play from young Angus Rive leaves the home side needing 11 off the last over. Fergus Whatley relieves the pressure by smashing a big 6 and Angus hits a 4 to win the game. |

With skipper Tom Barrett keeping wicket, Carlton’s bowlers find the going tough. After Cameron Simpson takes an early wicket, the Tufail brothers keep the scoreboard ticking over. While Angus Rive and Jack Kennedy bowl well, Carlton end up chasing 118 to win.
A gettable total in normal circumstances but soon Carlton are 0 for 3 as Raja Tufail takes 5 wickets for just 4 runs. Although Grigor Brown scores 19 and Ben Emmerson bats for 10 overs, this is an evening to forget for our U15s.

Another week, another early top order collapse from our U15s but from 4 for 3, Angus & Zaki ground out some runs and saw off the dangerous Muir on the artificial at Ferry Road. Warnock & Adeel Raza bowled excellently as well but our lower order stuck to the task and an unlikely looking 64 was achieved.
The team rallied to defend this small total, and a mixture of fast accurate seam bowling (Rajan, Cameron, Euan) from one end and leg-spin (Fergus, Philip, Nick with the wickets) from the other, never let SMRH batsmen feel in control. Tremendous fielding (2 stumpings, 3 catches, 3 runs outs) - well done Alex, Max, Stuart, Zaki – clinched this nail-biter and credit to SMRH for a match played in fine spirits.

| Our experienced top order fails once again and it’s left to Scott Duncan (with a fine 45*) and Zaki Yusaf (22*) to take the side through to a respectable 106 for 4 against Fauldhouse. With 15 overs gone, Woody’s inspirational pre-match team talk seems to have fallen on deaf ears as Fauldhouse are cruising to victory with the Carlton side snoozing in the field. However, after some fine bowling by Cameron and Zaki the game is suddenly there to be won and a fine last over from skipper Tom Barrett sees Carlton win by one run. |

| For the first time this season the Carlton U15s transfer their strength on paper to the field. Openers Rajan Bhopal and Scott Duncan put on 50 in the first 9 overs. A slow outfield means Rajan has to cover the 22 yards between the wickets more often than he would like while Scott is typically severe on anything short. The partnership is broken on 71 with Rajan lbw for 33. Scott, meanwhile, goes on to pass 50 for the first time while skipper Tom Barrett rattles a quick unbeaten 29 while still finding time to run out Scott for 59. Once Alex Glashen and Rajan (with a fine run out) dismiss the Heriot’s openers the match is as good as over. Angus Rive (2 for 4), debutant Nick Hunt (3 for 1) and Rajan (2 for 0) then take the opportunity to boost their bowling averages, as some fine fielding rounds off a fine night for Carlton. |

| Magnificent victory for 10-man Carlton at the home of Scottish Cricket. Grange set off in attacking style, but midway through the innings Angus had the dangerous Edwards caught behind off his first ball and later again combined with the lightning-like Fraser to remove the fine Hearns with a stumping. Best of our bowling came from the 13s, with Zaki and Cameron mightily impressive. Surely these 4 fine players will be recognised at District level next season! Being harsh, one area for improvement for our 13s (Alex aside) at this level, is fielding under pressure as Grange top order were let off the hook on at least 4 occasions. Grange opened with the 2 fine fast bowlers Shillington and Hearns, but our in-form opening batsmen, Tom and Scott, were always ahead of the run rate. Superb controlled, strokemaking from Tom, ably backed up by Scott (now with 200 runs in his last 4 U15 matches!) who punished the loose ball fiercely. So, an unbeaten partnership of 131 to round off our finest U15 night in recent seasons. Well done to the whole team! |

After 6 seasons, junior swansongs for Tom, Nick, Jack and Fraser and, fittingly, a tremendous team effort against a star-studded Watsonians XI.
A solid 50 partnership between Nick & Tom, then allowed Tom and Scott to push the total over 100. Details of our quality leg-spin attack precedes us these days, and after fine opening pace bowling from Cameron and Rajan, Angus and Fergus dispatched the top 6, including the dangerous quartet of Chalmers, Baker, Sands and Gibson, back to the pavilion. With the game won, Tom rang the bowling changes with wickets for Alex, Jack and, in a rare over of leg-spin, himself! Superb wicketkeeping - as always - from Fraser with a catch and a stumping, and high-class fielding throughout especially from Leigh, our very own Scottish Internationalist. |

.A good start as Tom wins the toss and opts to bat in the last ever match
to be played on the old Grange Loan artificial track. He and Nick Martin,
get off to a good start with Nick piercing the infield with some punishing
drives. When Nick falls for 20 in the 10th over, the big hitters are
promoted in the order. However, it's difficult to force the pace on the
artificial wicket and Tom watches a succession of cameo innings from his
team mates while he carries his bat for a determined 36. The consensus
from the spectators is that Carlton's 91 for 5 off 20 overs may not be
enough. However, just as the 1st team did in the Masterton final a few days
before, our U15s bowl superbly to bring the silverware to Grange Loan! From the outset, skipper Tom demands a special effort from his team and
with Fraser standing up to the wicket for 20 overs and some sensational
ground fielding from the whole team, most notably Kevin, Scott, Zaki,
Cameron, Fergus and Nick, the pressure proves too much for Watsonians.
Tom, in a superb spell of wicket to wicket bowling picks up 5 for 11,
while Angus puts a stranglehold on the innings by bowling 4 quality overs
of leg spin for just 7 runs. Excellent supporting spells from Nick,
Cameron, Zaki and young William Brown are backed up by 2 fine running
catches in the gloom from Grigor and Zaki to round off a superb 19 run
victory.
A great end to a great season!
