Dougal Main 37* |
A tough start for the combined side in their first match of the season but lots of positives to draw from the match.
With an ill Ben having to call off shortly before the start, Ruari was forced to don the wicket-keeping gloves and skipper from behind the stumps. While there was room for improvement with some of the fielding, the bowling was impressive on the whole, with good accurate swing bowling from the Carlton contingent and a promising debut from Murrayfield new boy Muzammel helping to restrict a good side to 116 from their 20 overs.
Hopes of chasing down the total took a blow when Ruairi was stumped off a wide. A good partnership between Rory and Dougal kept the visitors in the game, although more aggressive running and an eye for the quick single might have upped the run rate. Good acceleration towards the end though, as the final 9 overs produced 46 runs with Dougal finishing unbeaten on 37.

Adam MacDonald 2 for 12, David Mitchell 2 for 17 |
Two early wickets for Mitch put the Carlton side on the back foot, before a third wicket partnership took the game to the Carlton/MDAFS bowlers. Finlay made the crucial breakthrough, bowling Ruari before Adam made Haris one of his two victims. Young Archie also picked up a wicket, courtesy of a stumping from Ben.
Needing 100 to win, Dougal and Ben got things off to a sound start with a partnership of 30. Four quick wickets had Carlton/MDAFS in trouble at 54 for 4 but a match winning partnership developed between the hard-hitting Paddy Halliday and the streetwise Calum Everett.
Fittingly Paddy hit a boundary with 10 balls to go, to seal the win and to bring up his maiden 50.

Tim opened with Ben from Murrayfield and the pair got their side off to a fine start with a 50 partnership on a sticky wicket with a wet, slow outfield. Murrayfield's Saad also hit a quick 40 odd to take the home side to a healthy 114 for 3.
The Heriot's top order were decimated by Haris who picked up 6 wickets in only 2 overs, before Ben got among the wickets to polish up Heriots for just 30 runs.

Olympic Torch procession delays player....
The opening SMRH bowling partnership of Khan and Kapoor were too hot for a CMD top order missing an opening batter (Tim - stuck in the Olympic Torch traffic) and despite some late runs from Tim & Adam (who also held the majority of the CMD innings together very well) and a brief last over flurry from Miah, 66 was not going to be enough.
And so it proved as Sharkey and Ball aggressively raced to victory for SMRH in less than 8 overs.
