Carlton proved too strong for the Stenhousemuir side in a match played in dull conditions on a soft pitch.  Angus and Grigor effectively won the match in an excellent 2nd wicket stand, a 6 over mid-wicket being the highlight for Angus. In reply, the Stenhousemuir opening batsmen stood firm under an 8 over onslaught of fast, accurate bowling from Henry Lawrence and Steven Andrews who were nonetheless wicketless. Leg spinner Philip broke the deadlock with smart catches taken and tight fielding throughout. Zaki added 3 wickets to his swift 9 not out to cap a fine all round performance. 2 stumpings for Cameron in his first match as wicketkeeper. William and Andrew took a wicket apiece. Excellent team effort.

This match was switched from Raeburn Place and played at Newfield which could politely be described as a pitch suited to 'Kwik Cricket'. So high scores prevailed and not a 3 on the scorecard. Grigor survived a couple of dropped catches to make another fine 30 not out, and Cameron impressed in his innings of 30 not out. Excellent batting from our tail-end - Henry, Alex, Philip - adding 37 from the bat. With Steven unavailable, our opening fast bowling onslaught was in the hands of Henry & Alex who provided a devastating 8 over spell earning praise from the Accies pro at umpire. 2nd successive 4 wicket haul from our leg spinner Philip and Angus also took a wicket. Smart work in the field from Grigor provided a run out assist for Cameron, who also took a catch and made a smart stumping.

Perfect summer's evening for cricket, and although the score suggests otherwise, West Lothian had 4 or 5 fine players but our youngsters were on top form. Fine batting from the top order, with Cameron's and Zaki's runs coming in quick time. Steven and Henry opened the bowling in devastating style and it was Steven with the wickets on this occasion - clean bowling West Lothian's top 3. Henry, Philip and Daniel Kaminski were others to take a wicket apiece. Great attitude from the team throughout, exemplified by Zaki in all disciplines.

Dull evening, but a well protected pitch produced a fine wicket for our batsmen. Powerful hitting from Andrew and Angus, and fine stroke play from Grigor, enabled Carlton to set a large total for Penicuik to chase. Our excellent bowling and fielding, Jonty was outstanding, kept Penicuik in check and, as well as Philip (11 wickets this season), there were wickets for Henry, Grigor, Steven and William, who bowled his best spell of the season. A catch , a stumping and run out assist rounded off Cameron's fine evening.

A perfect summer evening saw Carlton welcome a Grange side, apparently containing 4 current Scotland players, for this combined East League/Scottish Cup fixture. Grange chose to bat and were soon put to test by our opening pair of Henry and Steven, who each took a wicket. Grange top order were kept further in check by Zaki and Philip with a wicket apiece. Alex bolwed accurately (1-6 off 3 overs) and Angus rounded things off with a wicket. Grigor had a fine match fielding in the covers. Angus and Andrew set off quickly in reply (34 off 4 overs) and Andrew effortlessly hit six 4s in his innings of 27. Grigor then joined Angus to see the team through to victory with the minimum of fuss.

  A McCallum 33 (ret), A Rive 26, Z Yusaf 21, D Riddell 3-18 C Cash 10, P Moynihan 5-10
Steady opening partnership between Angus and Andrew proved vital as accurate Watsonian bowling and superb fielding limited our middle order. However Zaki hit a quick 21 as our batsmen aimed for as many runs as possible and 105 looked a reasonable total. For once, our fast bowlers were wayward and 39 extras tells its own tale. Watsonian batsmen had no option but to chase runs and our leg spinner Philip profited with his spin and improved flight. Kevin's fielding has always been very good and contributed 2 run outs from mid wicket. So, not at our best but we look forward to Finals Day on Sunday.

Two wet weekends on 24 June and 1 July meant two cancellations. As Finals Day finally got under way at Glenalmond College at the third time of asking, the Carlton side were hit hard by holidays, with five of our first team regulars unavailable, including four of our top-order batsmen. However, as we’ve come to expect of this fine young team, our U13s did the club proud, rallying to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat in a pulsating semi-final victory over Clydesdale. Henry, having been promoted up the order, hit a fine 27 as we posted 79 in our 20 overs. The game looked all but over at one stage but great bowling from Steven (2 for 15), Stuart (2 for 7 to add to his sensational fielding) and, crucially, Zaki (4 for 5!) turned the game Carlton’s way.

With only 20 minutes between the semi-final and the final, it was always going to be difficult for our u13s as an impressive Kinross side lay in wait.

Nevertheless, a fine unbeaten 30 from Zaki helped Carlton post a reasonable 85 for 6. However, fatigue played its part and despite 2 wickets for Steven and fine bowling at the end from Cameron and Zaki, it wasn’t to be, Kinross running out deserving winners by 5 wickets.
All in all though, a great effort from a fine young Carlton team!

Damp, green pitch but remarkably playable. Understandably, steady progress from our batsmen, with Steven livening things up in his short cameo! The young Fauldhouse team had no answer to our bowlers on this type of pitch. After Steven and Cameron has dislodged the top order, Rory added a wicket and debutant Fraser cleaned up the tail with a hat trick. Thanks to young Harry Simpson for helping the team out with fine fielding.

Short spell of dry weather and a fine batting pitch at Grange Loan. Although not on best form, our opening batsmen reached their target of 30 undefeated. Zaki played well for his 28, well supported in latter stages by debutant Dylan. The Simpsons (?) - Cameron and Rory - were the pick of our bowlers as Malik comfortably made his 30, but without support Corstorphine were always held. Debuts also from Craig and Euan with Carlton coaches having one eye on the future!

Damp, drizzly conditions but players on both sides played enthusiastically. Accurate bowling from Cash and Kelly restricted our top order but a fine unbeaten 5th wicket partnership of 52 from William and Alex allowed us to post a good total. Alex removed the Watsonian first 2 batsmen in a fine opening attack with Zaki, but although McPhee and Cockburn hit some fine blows, the young Watsonians batsmen were never quite able to accelerate their run rate towards the end. Matthew played well behind the stumps with 2 catches and 2 run out assists. Thanks again to David Bell and Watsonians for staging the game in damp but safe conditions.

A reasonable total posted by Carlton, with Zaki's knock most creditable and well done to Jonty on his first maximum. Batting from our top order is generally lacking the urgency and flair of early season, and it is vital that our team strive to push themselves to achieve the next level. Bruce Scott bowled an excellent 4 overs for our opponents. The young SMRH batsmen battled hard throughout against our fast bowling - Henry, Zaki, Alex and William. Greater thought is required in our field placing, especially behind the wicket as we're tending to coast through the latter stages of matches these days. Fielding from Kyle at point and Jonty in the covers was outstanding.

Excellent, controlled batting from William, Jonty and Zaki saw our team post another 100+ score. Fine bowling and fielding kept Haddington in check, but no real breakthrough until Cameron turned to his brother to bowl. However, the surprise was that it was not Rory (East U11) but 9 year old Harry 'line and length' Simpson who was handed the ball. 4 wickets in 2 overs (including the prized wicket of 'Pinky' Tufail) left the coach having to face questions such as 'why has he not been playing all season?'. Enjoyable match with all players on both sides taking part. Fine finale to an excellent season - 10 wins out of 10 in the East U13 League with only 2 matches lost to the weather. .

Second match played on the same night, with Carlton fielding 2 different teams. A fine innings from opener Kyle, who displayed excellent shot selection, mixing solid defence with some fine boundaries. Once Kyle was run out, skipper Angus and Alex ran well and hit some punishing shots to carry the Carlton total into 3 figures once again. A superb opening spell from Henry  backed by good bowling from Toby  and some fine fielding ensured Heriots did not get off to a good start. Daniel Kaminski and Ruaridh MacPherson then showed that the Carlton conveyer belt of seam bowlers is seemingly endless while Chayank Gossain dazzled with his left arm spin. Last word to Angus, however, who took a stunning one-handed catch at slip in the dark to end the U13 season on a high.
