An opening partnership of 49 between AJ Williams and youngster Grigor Brown gets the ‘young and old’ Sunday XI off to a good start before AJ (26) falls to a great catch from one of the visitors’ many fine young fielders. Once Grigor departs for a stylish 21 the batting loses its way before Steven Elder rescues things with an unbeaten 30, ably supported by Keith Murray (24) who, typically, overworks the leg side fielders to a degree that borders on cruelty. Steven, who clearly doesn’t understand the meaning of the word friendly, takes a hat-trick (all bowled) on the way to figures of 4 for 5 from 6 overs. Young leg spinner Nick Martin bowls well and picks up 2 wickets, while Alistair Duncan makes an early bid for the title of Most Intimidating Appeal of the Season when trapping a startled batsman plumb in front. |

With the bulk of the club off to Ferguslie for the Cup Final, we can't scratch the traditional end-of-season trip to the delights of Manderston so a mixture of young and old head to the Borders. Father and son opening partnership of Shaun and Tom Barrett provide a solid start, Martin Robertson and Guy Williamson scoring 50's in the middle-order and a decent score is posted. However, as with the 1st XI this year, it's the bowlers that impress, this time two of our Under 13's, with 3 wickets for Zaki Yusaf and 5 for Fergus Whately to seal victory. |
