Haddington Kwik Cricket Tournament

U10 Kwik Cricket team win Haddington Festival

It was four wins out of four at a chilly Haddington Kwik Cricket festival on Sunday for the Under 10s who won in style, beating SMRH in the final and gaining revenge for a defeat the previous week.

First up were old foes Watsonians. Carlton posted a strong score of 136 with a very solid opening partnership from Gregor and Fabian knocking almost half the runs.  It looked like Watsonians would be well off the pace after Cameron and Brodie opened Carlton’s bowling attack, restricting their opponents to five runs and one wicket, but by the last over Watsonians were back in with a shout needing nine to win. They reckoned without  six yorkers from Zack and, with the loss of only one run, Carlton were home and dry

.

Next up was West Lothian for the first time this season and this was a much closer affair. Gregor opened the bowling and produced another fine display taking two wickets and, with Callum, Duncan and Zack all taking one wicket apiece, the final score of 111 looked within easy reach for Carlton’s batsmen. They made heavy weather of it with some poor decision-making between the wickets leading to a couple of needless run outs. In the end Carlton only just managed to scrape the win in the final over.

The last group game was against hosts Haddington. Carlton batted first and Callum and Gregor got off to a flyer. Posting a strong 132 total, Carlton were able to profit from some erratic Haddington bowling leaving extras as the top scorer. Haddington started their batting solidly and were well up with the pace until a wicket from Duncan and a superb catch in the penultimate over by Brodie sealed the game in Carlton’s favour.

SMRH provided the opposition in the final match and Carlton made the best possible start with a wicket off Muz’s first ball courtesy of a well-held catch by Zack. Tight fielding and good bowling restricted SMRH to 118, with two wickets falling in the last two overs. The Carlton innings started brightly enough, but it wasn’t until the third pair of Euan and Fabian came to the wicket that the runs started to pile on. Going into the last two overs, Carlton looked to have sealed the win, but a couple of wickets in the penultimate over left things in doubt. In the end Brodie and Zack were able to seal the win in the final over.

Well played  to Gregor, Callum,  Muz, Brodie, Duncan, Fabian, George, Euan, Cameron and Zack for a great all-round performance across the four games.
