Carlton win Heriots Under 11 Hardball Tournament

The day began in blustery and damp conditions, the boys got it together and put on a solid first game performance to comfortably defeat Murrayfield Dafs with some strong batting from all players and good straight bowling.

This continued into the second game against Grange and the win was well deserved.

The third game was Heriots. The Carlton boys just didn't put a foot wrong and there was some excellent fielding with a number of great catches.

The final was against Watsonians and Carlton needed to remain tight in the field with Watsonians batting first. Despite a couple of missed chances, Watsonians were restricted to 206 from their 8 overs. Carlton then had a not out opening partnership and got the scoreboard rolling. All our batsmen played sensibly, straight and hit the bad ball. The final over needed calm heads and good defence. That is what we got and Carlton scored a total of 224 to win.

All the boys were a credit to Carlton Cricket Club; there were many good individual performances with both Calum Everett and Rory Allardice having hattrick balls but overall it was the standard of fielding, accuracy of bowling and batting technique that won the day. The standards Carlton set were commented on by all the other coaches.
