Murrayfield DAFS Kwik Cricket Tournament

It was mixed fortunes for the Carlton U10’s in the Murrayfield-DAFS Kwik Cricket Festival on Sunday, played under sunny skies at Roseburn Park. There were debuts in Carlton colours for Fabian, Scott and Ben and a strong showing in the first match saw a comfortable victory against Watsonians (despite a rather slow outfield caused by the grass cuttings!). Zack particularly impressed, closing out the Watsonians innings with a wicket maiden and then hitting three 4s in his own innings.

Having beaten an SMRH team mid-week, a repeat was hoped for in the next game, but a decent Carlton total wasn’t quite enough and some strong batting from SMRH left Carlton with too much to do to claw it back.

The final game was against a Grange side that had defeated Carlton in the final of the Grange Festival a week earlier, so revenge was hoped for. Despite some good batting and a couple of big sixes from Fin (although one was given out for hit wicket!), mix-ups running between the wickets cost Carlton dear - definitely something for the coaches to work on there! In the field there was some good bowling and fielding from Carlton, but in the end Grange ran out comfortable winners.

All in all, a good performance as the team learns the game in what is the first season playing competitively for most of them.
