Women win again and Harry takes 5

Following the entertainment of the tied T20 between Carlton and Hearts on Friday evening, Saturday turned out to be something of a damp squib with the rain washing out all the scheduled matches.

However, Sunday dawned much brighter, allowing the Carlton women to earn their second successive win in the national premier league with a 7 wicket victory at RH Corstorphine. And young Harry Simpson took 5 wickets as the 3s defeated St Boswells at Grange Loan.

Robbo's equaliser saves Hearts

Reprising a match first played in 1936, Carlton and Hearts met at Grange Loan for a T20 friendly. Batting first, Carlton relied on the Beattie brothers to provide the backbone of the Carlton innings in the face of a spirited effort from the Jambos in the field.

Goalkeeping hero Henry Smith and assistant manager Austin McPhee got the Hearts reply off to a flyer, but it was inevitably left to legendary number nine John Robertson to take a single off the last ball to tie the game.

Club captain Fraser Watts led the way with a brilliant 162 on Saturday, and there were were fivefers for Duncan Sutherland (2s) and young Charlie Kentish (5s). On Sunday Michael Herdman's five wickets in the Scottish Cup first round included a hat-trick.

Stevie's Summer Cricket Camps

Booking is now open for the ever popular summer cricket camps run by Carlton Head Coach Stevie Gilmour. This year sees four weeks of camps running from 17th July.

Each camp caters for three groups across different ages and experience levels - Little Legends (age 5-6), Kwik Cricket (7-11) and T20 (10-14 with hardball experience). Stevie's camps are a highly popular fixture of the Edinburgh summer so we recommend booking early to avoid disappointment.
