  47 for 1 (8.3 overs) home 46 for 8 (20 overs)

The A team's first game of the season pitted them against an inexperienced Heriot's outfit.

Front-line bowlers Euan, Haris and skipper Ruari were left to patrol the outfield while everybody else got a bowl. The opening pairing of Greg and Dougal soon found their line and set the tone for a tight 20 overs. With Adam and Harry taking over with excellent spells there was no respite for the beleagured Heriot's batsmen, aperticularly when Greg ran out Heriot's number 3 Ahmed with a superb direct hit.

Fifth seamer Oli Brown was in particularly unforgiving mood; one great delivery finding the edge of the bat to give debutant wicket-keeper Rory Allardice his first ever catch behind the stumps. Spinners Keshav and David then ensured there would be no wagging tail as the vistors were resticted to just 46 for 8 after their allotted 20 overs.

David, Euan and Haris then knocked off the runs required within 8.3 overs to take Carlton to a very comfortable 9 wicket win.

  47 for 4 (20 overs) away

117 for 3 (20 overs)

Euan Everett 31 retired, Haris Aslam 21

Another accomplished batting performance from Euan who retired unbeaten after hitting 31; Haris (21) also batted well with great timing and shape to his shots and an increasing eye for the single.

Keshav (14no) looked more assured as his innings progressed becoming more confident in being able to really wait for the ball to come to him and aiming to hit it later.  With 3 overs to go Olly came to the wicket and proceeded to give another firecracker batting performance – a few big hits before being run out off the last ball for 11.

Once again the coach did not require Euan, Haris and Ruari to bowl – held back for sterner tests ahead. Greg bowled some superb away swing deliveries that would have troubled more senior and better batsmen than the youngsters from West Lothian. Dougal once again bowled really well and is getting better every week as is Adam. David continued with his left-arm spin and turned a good few to fox the batsmen.

In the end another comfortable win against an inexperienced home side.

122 for 5

113 for 2

The Carlton Under 13s scraped home against Penicuik after giving away 39 extras as the visitors looked to chase 123 to win.

After Euan was unluckily run out, Haris and Ruari both hit undefeated 30s as their side posted a decent looking 122 after their 20 overs.

With the Penicuik opening pair of Whait and Hilton going off like a rocket with the help of the frequent extras, the score raced to 80 after just ten overs and the prospects of a Carton win looked slim. However, the retiral of both batsmen on 30 offered a glimmer of hope and the home side took their chance. Ruari, Haris and Keshav all bowled well in the second half and Euan bowled a fine last over to see Carlton home by just 9 runs.

A good, exciting finish for the team to deal with and the older players rose to the occasion in the field with some great stops and throws when the pressure was on. The real positive of the night was the fact that the boys didn't give up and they all continued to try hard until the last ball. Because of that they were rewarded with a narrow win. If you never give up in any cricket match until the last ball is bowled you'll surprise yourselves at times and will win more close matches than you lose!

  47 all out away 117 for 0

Undefeated thirties from Euan, Haris and David took Carlton to a healthy total in this first round Scottish Cup tie at Goldenacre.

Early wickets against the inexperienced Heriots batting line up enabled everyone to get a bowl as an under strength Carlton side had a comfortable passage into round 2, where they will host either Peebles County or Penicuik.

David blazed a quickfire 30 to get Carlton off to a flier in this friendly match (the league match will be played later in the season once Grange have a full team available). An undefeated innings from young Oli, well supported by Ruari, provided the platform needed for Euan and Oliver Fenton to take the score past the 100 mark.

Greg and Kamran (on debut) both bowled accurate opening spells, with all the younger bowlers getting the opportunity to turn their arm over. A special mention to another debutant, Murray Whitaker, who picked up his first Carlton wicket towards the end.

The third meeting of the season between these two sides offered the opportunity to promote a few players up the batting order and Keshav, Greg and Oliver took full advantage. Regular top order batters Haris, David and Euan also chipped in with quick runs.

In the Heriots innings, the best bowling return was from Alexander with 2 for 20, while young Tom Simpson also bowled a good spell.

A clinical performance from the Under 13s, restricting the home side to just 59 (including 16 extras). Euan and David then rattled off the runs with the minimum of fuss to set up a mouth-watering quarter-final tie with old rivals Grange, winners of last year's final between the two sides.

More unbeaten 30s for Haris and Ruari helped Carlton post a reasonable total on the small square at Myreside.

Our old mate Rory Evans top scored for the home side in their reply, but it was the high number of extras that proved costly as Watsonians scrambled a run off the last ball to seal a thrilling tie in front of an enthusiastic crowd.

70 for 8

Rory Allardice 2 for 4, Haris Aslam 2 for 9

After the disappointment of last week’s tie, it was a determined young Carlton side who took to the field for the second of the back-to-back clashes against their neighbours.

In the absence of Ruari, Euan took over the reins and won the toss. The skipper strode to the wicket with David, but the latter was soon striding back, deeply annoyed with himself, as he was caught off a loose shot with only 2 to his name.

Haris and Euan then proceeded to put together an excellent partnership in the face of some accurate and hostile bowling from the Myreside openers. Haris, in particular, was in fine form, showing great timing and power as he pierced the infield to race to an excellent undefeated 32 before retiring. Euan continued to play the anchor role but, at the other end, his team-mates were struggling to put bat on ball.

Euan eventually perished caught behind for a dogged 18, and the home side then limped to a 20 over total of 82 for 6.

Not much to defend. Coach Akeel tried to convince his charges that all was not lost, and stressed the importance of a tight opening spell, while the Junior Convener demanded “a real Carlton fielding performance” from the skipper.

Euan opened with Greg and the pair bowled beautifully from the outset. Euan picked up the first wicket when he trapped opener Adam painfully in front for 7 and after the first eight overs, the visitors were behind the asking rate, although left-hander Rory was still at the crease and always a threat.

Enter the spin twins Haris and David and the game ‘turned’ dramatically in Carlton’s favour. Leg-spinner Haris trapped Rory in front while David put the disappointment of his batting dismissal behind him with a great spell of left-arm spin. With young Rory pitching in with a top spell of off-spin that earned him two wickets, including one that turned ‘several yards’ according to the man himself.

In the end, a comfortable if unlikely win for Carlton against a talented Watsonian side. “Was that Carlton enough for you?” said the skipper as he marched off proudly. It was, Euan, it was.
