185 all out home 169 all out
Batting first on a wicket that played more like a mid-summer belter than the usual early-season conditions, Carlton stutter to a disappointing 185 all out, 49 from Charles Paterson, but wickets fall regularly at the other end. 3 quick wickets in the second innings from openers Charles Stronach and captain Brad McKay, but a staunch fight-back by the Glenrothes middle-order swings the match back in their favour. However, tight bowling from Nitin Chaudhary and 4 for 28 from Peter Swan, allied to some impressive out-field catching sees Glenrothes dismissed 16 runs short.

  242 for 4 away 110 all out
Once again, the opposition won the toss and inserted us (these guys clearly don't know our strength). Soon enough however, we were 3/2, but in came Nav Siddique(45) and Tom Dunford (36), a Carlton junior making his 2nd team debut. These two batted very sensibly putting on 80. The fall of these two brought Guy Williamson and John Barnes to the crease, and in the next 20 overs, they put on 140 and ran Livingston ragged. Guy played the more extravagant shots and JB nudged the singles around. When Guy was run out in the last over for 89, JB added the finishing touches with a six off the last ball to bring up his 50 and the team score of 242/5, a superb effort. The bowlers kept it tight at the start, but it was Zan Sevak (2/19) who made the breakthroughs, and Stevie Elder (5/36) who tore through the middle order. It was left to Omar Ahmad and Pete Swan, in front of his adoring fans, to wrap up the tail - all out 110. That's 2 out of 2 for the Carlton 2's.

180 all out away 104 all out
In spite of a return of 5 for 31 from Donald Lovie, the home-side's 180 proves enough for victory as the Holy Cross tactic of bowling leg-stump to a 6:3 or even 7:2 field in damp, windswept conditions tied-town the Carlton batting, only Charles Paterson making a meaningful contribution of 39. Played in good spirit, the match was the 2nds first defeat of the campaign, but still leaves them well-placed in ESCA Division 1.

  71 all out home 250 for 9
Carlton let MUDAFS away with far too many runs, Ben Higgins scoring 116. In the second innings, a start of 2 runs for 4 wickets leaves Carlton limping to 71 all out.

  171 for 8 away 198 all out
The seconds bounce back after two defeats with a convincing win over Grange. A positive start from Charle Paterson with 39 and Ben Duerden with 41 the major contributions, with plenty of twenties down the order taking Carlton to a decent score. Far from the highlight of the second innings was captain Brad McKay's over when 4 catches were dropped in 6 balls.  However, some tight bowling kept Grange below the required rate and, having to hit out to get within range, Grange lost wickets in the final overs to end up on the losing side in the first Carlton-Grange 2nds match since the demise of the old East League Grade competition.

Tricky batting conditions, but Ben Duerden scores 38, the foundation of a decent score in the conditions. Charles Stronach''s 3 for 16 blasts the Heriots top-order, leaving Tom Clarke and Brad McKay with 2 each.

Carlton start positively, but with Nav Siddique on 25 not out and Peter Swan on 40 not out, the match is rained-off with Carlton nicely poised.

  113 for 9 away 107 all out
2 wickets for Charles Stronach, 2 for Ally Evans and 2 for Nitin Chaudhary as Mu/DAFS post a low total, but in the usual Muirhouse conditions, batting is never easy, so despite an undefeated 19 by Ally Evans (proving his all-rounder credentials), Carlton fall agonisingly close.

  182 for 9 home 183 for 8
Carlton bat first, but struggle to 58 for 5, only Ally Evans posting a score (24). However, John Barnes and Fergus Guppy rebuild the innings with a 69-run partnership before Fergus is caught, also for 24, JB going on to make 43. Charles Stronach hits 17 not out at the end to add a final flourish, taking Carlton to a much higher total than seemed likely. Grange lose early wickets, but recover in the middle order, until Ally Evans takes 3 wickets (one a fantastic diving catch from Fergus) and Tom Clarke bags another 2 (good catches from JB this time) to swing the match back in Carlton''s favour, but the Grange tail-enders hold out Charles Stronach''s final spell, before Gordon Allan''s undefeated 20 sees Grange home in a tense finale.

  165 for 5 away 164 for 8
Tom Barrett''s patient 43 forms the backbone of the innings, Charles Paterson and Donald Lovie the fireworks, Donald''s 6 driven over extra-cover the highlight of his last game for Carlton before he returns to Canberra, but 164 always looks short of what could have been. Despite captain Brad McKay taking 3 wickets for only 10 runs, the only other bowling succcess is from Nick Hunt''s off spin, a good return of 1 for 22 from 7 from an Under 15 in ESCA Division 1. However, things just don''t go our way and former Carlton player Al MacDonnell strokes 59 to seal the points for Watsonians. A losing finish to the season for the 2nds, but comfortably placed in mid-table with room for improvement in years to come as more of our talented young cricketers develop at this level of the game.
